Communication Strategies

Dealing with difficult conversations and conflict is never easy but the sooner you start communicating effectively, the easier it will be to resolve your dispute. In the vast majority of cases, most people want to continue their relationship with the party or parties they are currently having problems with, particularly if they are family members or work colleagues. To avoid damaging relationships in the process, so they can be maintained or even strengthened and improved once the issues are dealt with, it is helpful to learn more about effective communication.

The communication strategies on this site are provided as a free service to assist parties in conflict situations in making the first and subsequent approaches a little easier. We encourage disputants to freely access these tools and techniques such as how to
open the lines of communication, build trust and be an active listener.

If your discussions are not progressing, it often helps to have objective outside assistance to improve communication and identify issues clearly. If parties are not able to handle matters, please
contact Collaborate Australia for advice. A trained practitioner will be able to help you reach a prompt, cost-effective resolution to your dispute.  You may also benefit by subscribing to our free bi-monthly newsletter which provides tips and advice on topics such as communication focus, collaboration, mediation, negotiation strategies, questions and answers from subscribers and clients, recommended reading, case studies and website updates.  Every issue includes a specific article on an aspect of communication and is full of practical "how to" tools and techniques for communicating more effectively and achieving satisfying outcomes.  Please visit our downloads page for a free sample.
